Fifteen teachers from Ypsilanti Community Middle School and three nearby middle schools took part in Summer Semiconductor Sessions at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) in June 2024! Funded by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, sessions were hosted in partnership with WCC and the SEMI Foundation. As part of a week-long training, educators learned about semiconductors and how to integrate them into their curriculum. Teachers also toured KLA Corporation's Ann Arbor campus and the University of Michigan’s Laurie Nanofabrication Facility.
We’d like to thank Rep. Debbie Dingell for taking the time to speak with the teachers about the CHIPS Act and how this outreach is connected to it.
In June 2024, the Michigan State University College of Engineering hosted a six-day summer camp for rising ninth graders to learn about semiconductors. Led by Professor Nelson Sepulveda and Ph.D student Luis Colón, students assembled their own electrical circuits in the classroom and fabricated a micrometer-sized sensor in MSU’s cleanroom.
